WONCA Europe 2007

Letter from President Wonca Europe

Dear colleagues,

As the European regional president of WONCA, I am looking forward to meeting you in Paris for the Wonca Europe regional conference that is going to be hosted by the general practitioners from France.

France has played a leading role in the development of the European general practice and its associations since the beginning. One can not imagine the development of the European general practice without the input of the French experts who have contributed enormously to the development of the discipline on an international level. Their knowledge and ideas have always been a source of inspiration to general practitioners across Europe.

The CNGE has been very successful in organising international events of general practice/family medicine of the European network organisations in the past and it is logical that they have received the task of hosting the most important yearly event of Wonca Europe.

The theme of the conference has already received a lot of attention and interest. Policy experts worldwide agree that strong primary care and family medicine are foundations of every good health care system. Nevertheless, the practicalities how to achieve this, differ enormously. Most countries in Europe are either implementing or developing or evaluating their own primary care systems. It is therefore very important to organise a conference around this topic and exchange our experiences at an international meeting. The richness of different solutions at the European level should not be missed.

As in every conference, the three network organisations will have a prominent role: EGPRN with its expertise in research, EQUIP in quality assurance and EURACT in education. The conference will also enable other network organisations and interest groups to meet and to show their achievements. The Wonca family has recently been enriched by the Vasco da Gama movement of junior doctors who will also participate in the event and contribute to the scientific program as well.

And lastly, the sheer pleasure of visiting Paris should be the reason enough to come to the conference in 2007.

There is no doubt that the meeting of general practitioners in France in 2007 will be another successful event that will be of benefit to Wonca Europe and to French general practice.
